Meet Livvy!

Here's Livvy!--my newest 14-inch bear made of an amazingly soft faux fur that has a beautiful look and feel.  My youngest daughter took these pictures of Livvy today during one of the brief dry spells we had.

I'm just SOOOO pleased with how she turned out.  I think I finally have made my bear!

Some of you who have been following me over the year may remember how I have tried at different times to make a bear just for myself and have never succeeded in keeping one. This time, though, I am just smitten with that little, furry face and just can't bring myself to sell her.

But don't worry, I will be using many aspects of Livvy's pattern and construction in some of my future bears. I ignored many of my self-imposed bear construction "rules" when I designed her. Instead of a traditional single or double-jointed neck, I used a snug wobble-joint--I like how it adds some liveliness to her . I made turned-down paws without any paw pads and just love the softness of line and feel that it gave. I also used a new technique which worked quite well for needle felting the eyelids, added some extra needle-sculpting to the face and eyes, and learned a new way to hide knots for embroidery and needle-sculpting. In addition, after trying many people's techniques, I've settled on my favorite way of waxing a nose which really isn't how other people "say" to do it.

I guess that's the beauty of life (and bear-making).  We just all bump along and find our own ways of walking down the path.

Warmly,
Cheryl

P.S.  With less than 2 days left until Sammy's giveaway, I am so thankful to all of you for your support and encouragement.  I have been literally blown away by your incredible response to Sammy--there are currently 504 entries in his giveaway!  Thank you!

  1. Ooh, I love her! She's so sweet :) How do you color the fur to get the darker shade around her nose and paws? I wish I could sew!

  2. Thanks! I'm so glad you like Livvy! I mainly use water-soluble oil paints and a few artist-grade markers and pens to color my bears. For me, it's one of my favorite parts of making bears.

    Cheryl
