Sweet Sixteen!

My Goodness!   Can it be true?!  Yes, our eldest is sixteen years old today!

Ah, the beginning of a new era.  First thing today, we made our way over to the local DMV where she aced the test for her learner's permit.  We are now poised to begin driving lessons.  I expect this weekend (or sooner!) will see us driving in circles in a local parking lot.

Happy Birthday, Sweetie!  And Congratulations on getting your Learner's Permit!

I've Finally Returned!

Yes!  I'm back in SO many ways!  We've been home for almost a week from our vacation (I'll tell you more about that in just a moment).  It's taken a bit to get back in the swing of things, but I've been able to sort out a few things in my head during the past week which has been a real relief.  I'm starting back into making bears, and my health has taken a turn for the better (something I NEVER thought that I would be able to say).  More on those topics another day--now on to our vacation!

Matt and I took a cruise!  The girls have been on two cruises with my parents (in fact, they were on a 2-week Alaska cruise while we were on ours), but this was the first time we have ever taken one.  My parents thought it would be a nice way for me to have a vacation due to my health issues, so they gave us some combined birthday and Christmas money to help cover some of the expenses.

It was just LOVELY!  Thankfully my health had already improved to a degree or else I would have had to use the wheelchair that we kept in our room just in case.  There is SO much walking!  BUT we were on a HUGE ship!

To help put things in perspective, the little orange and white boat in the foreground (a tender) can hold 100 people.   If you look closely, you can see two more of these boats docked next to the ship (and bunches of them hanging off of the middle of it).

Our cruise was for one-week and sailed along the New England coastline up to New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, Canada.  Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!  We also went on a whale watch--something I have always wanted to do--and saw 7 humpback whales.  At one point, we even saw a pod of about 70 dolphins working with the 7 humpbacks to harvest fish--AMAZING.  The dolphins swam clockwise in a big circle while the humpbacks went up and down through the middle eating.

Here are some more wonderful photos that Matt took.

It was just a lovely time the two of us together.  I'm not sure whether we will ever go on one again as they are quite expensive, but we certainly have some wonderful memories.  Unlike many vacations, I can honestly say that this one was a COMPLETE escape.  (Hence, it's been more challenging to get back to real life!)

I'm off on an adventure!  I hope to have lots of stories and photos when I return.  I hope all of you have a great week!

Changing Winds

A fresh wind from the north is blowing and I can feel the cobwebs slowly clearing from my mind.  A simply gorgeous day after rain and wind.

May you find joy in all around you.

Life Without Kids

I'm childless for 3 weeks.  It's been a very strange feeling with the girls away for the past few days.  They are starting their school year with an adventure in Alaska with my parents.  Ahhh, the advantages of homeschooling.  I do hope they enjoy themselves.

As for here, it is very quiet.  I like the quiet.  But now, after 2 days of silence, even I wanted a tiny bit of noise.  So I just put on a CD of guitar music that the girls gave me for my birthday.  It's quite lovely!

Now that I'm caught up with errands, I think I shall go work on a bear.
