A Lovely Day at an Art Fair

The girls and I have a weakness for art fairs--we just love them.  I have no idea how we missed going to the downtown summer art show near us.  We've lived in this area now for 4 years and this was the first time we went (!) and it certainly did not disappoint.

We started on one street that was filled with amazing art.

Then we came to the square and started down another street.

Back to the square,

And yet ANOTHER street just packed with more artists' tents.  This happened again and again!  We would think that we had seen it all and then we would find another long street just filled with lovely things to look at.  I honestly lost count of how many streets the fair filled.  Right now I can remember 5 full streets plus the square and a parking lot.

I was truly amazed by how big it was and the quality of the arts and crafts.  There were many local artists that we recognized and had to patronize--like our absolute favorite peanut brittle with a very appropriate name.  They have a website if you're interested in trying some--Better Brittle.

And then there were artists from all over the nation.

Here the girls are trying some rather interesting earrings on from Ear Divine and trying to decide which pair to buy.

And on top of the art fair, there was also a sidewalk painting festival going on side-by-side.  We even found one of the girls' friends working on a painting.

Catheryn had made some good progress when we arrived, but I know she still had a ways to go to finish it in the hot summer sun.

Here's one of our favorite finished sidewalk paintings in the fair.

We all had such a good time wandering the streets, buying a couple of treasures, and eating sno-cones, then smoothies and ice cream.  Like I said it was hot and we were rather interested in anything that kept us a bit cooler.  I must admit it's nice to be in our air-conditioned home now.

I hope you are having a lovely weekend, too.

Perhaps A New Beginning

Well, I've finally done it.  I've finally bought myself a camera.  I really can't remember the last time I've had my own camera--maybe 24 years ago--maybe less, maybe more.  Anyways, you get the idea.  So whenever I want a photo to make a blog post I have to borrow the girls' camera or ask Matt to take a photo for me with his expansive range of camera equipment.  Needless to say, I often just decide to forget the post and get busy doing something else.

But, haha, no more!  I now have my own camera that should be light enough to carry around in my purse.  See!

Now, theoretically, I'll be able to tell you about all of the silly things that pop in my head to write to you about.  Well, at least I'll no longer have any excuse.

I also want to show you my birthday cake that our cookie-baker-elf made for me today.  It's a layered lemon curd cake and it should be simply divine!  In the effort to be a good journalist, I did my research and made sure I sampled each layer so that I could tell you in good faith how it would taste.  So far it's mouthwatering!

It's going to be hard to resist putting my finger in the icing before we are allowed to eat it tonight, but I'll do my best!!  Oh, and as for the single candle--we decided there just wasn't enough room to put all the candles necessary on the cake since it would look more like a porcupine than a cake so we settled on a single token candle instead.

Be @ Home

I'm very honored that Be & Home has featured Bingle Bears in this week's "Best of the Web" along with several other crafters.  This is a new site to me, but apparently is very popular--it looks quite interesting.  Check it out by clicking HERE.  Thank you, Chrissy!!

Another Feature Article!!

Well, I've now received my copy of "Teddy Bear and Friends" and I truly am featured as one of nine up-an-coming bear artists in the article "New Kids on the Block."  WooHoo!  A lovely page about me and my bears.  In it they feature a photo of Bennett and his Butterfly.

And as I was perusing through the other pages, I saw a family face smiling back at me.  Lo and behold, there was little Oliver in the "Collecting/Most Wanted" section.

WOW!  Two feature articles in our two US teddy bear magazines--in fact, they are both in the current issues.  Unbelievable!

Well, I suppose I should stop blathering on and get back to work.  I've finished all of the TBAI preparations I can do right now.  As the time gets closer I will set up a mock table in our dining room and take a photo of it so that it will make setup at the show easier.  But for now I'm off to work on a new bear.

It's funny how life changes a person.  I used to be the ultimate in procrastination--I had it down to a science all those years I was in school.  But now, I prepare for things SO early in order to keep my stress levels down.  It helps me to keep functioning, I suppose.

So here it is about three weeks from the Teddy Bear Artist Invitation (TBAI) in Binghamton, New York and I've made all the bears I was planning on making for it as well as finishing three bears to go to Silly Bears for the September Hugglets show.  In my spare time these past couple of days (since I've returned to my job as a home school mom), I've started dong all the nitty-gritty things like making hangtags for the bears, Bingle Bears shopping bags, and a table cloth for my show table.  I'm hoping I'll finish these tasks tomorrow or Friday and then I'm ready for the show--basically three weeks early.  I'm such a silly sausage!

So if all goes as planned, I'll have at least 2 weeks to just putter.  I think I'll try making an extra bear or two to bring to TBAI.  Maybe I'll even design a new pattern!  In the meantime, I'll show you some close-ups of bears I'm taking with me.

Have a great day!!
Heaps of Hugs,

P.S.  I'm told that I'm featured in the latest issue of "Teddy Bears and Friends" as one of nine up-and-coming artists.  I haven't seen the issue yet, so I'll cross my fingers that it turns out all right.

Waiting for Our Girls

I've been a full-time bearmaker these last couple of weeks.  The girls have been exploring California with their grandparents--it sounds like they've had a ball.  However, tomorrow that all ends.  I must admit that I can't WAIT to see them after three weeks of having a quieter house.  Of course, I have gotten a lot of bear work done and won't be able to keep up the pace that I've been working at since I'll need to put on my chauffeur's cap and homeschooling mom's pants on again.  But I can't wait to see their shining faces and hear of all their adventures.

Even Bingley is looking a bit "off" since his playmates, his"puppies," have been gone.  He's going to go absolutely beserk when they walk in the door tomorrow evening.  It should be quite the sight!

I hope you all have something to look forward to this weekend.

Wonderful Giveaways!

Things seem to finally be getting back to normal around here.  It's been very busy with house guests, our eldest's high school graduation, and then a camping trip.  The girls are currently exploring California with my parents and won't return until the end of next week so, I guess, that's when everything will truly be back to normal.  Anyways that's my excuse for neglecting all of you, and I'm sticking with it!

So, GIVEAWAYS! I have to tell you about a few great giveaways that I've found on the web.

Your first stop should be The Bear's Blog--in fact, run there because today is the last day to enter.  Joyce is giving away a beautiful box that she decorated--truly lovely.

Your next stop should be Benson Bears where Linda is giving away one of her fabulous creations on July 6th.

Another stop you don't want to miss is Desertmountainbears where Joanne is giving away a beautiful little Native American fetish bear on July 15th.

And last, if you've ever been a customer of Vivianne Galli go straight to The Old Pincushion to enter her giveway celebrating 1000 sales.  She's giving away Fleur on July 6th.  Isn't Fleur delightful!

That's all I have for now!
