Beware of Artists and Perhaps Quotes, Too

I'm a quote nut.  I collect quotes--have done for years.  I have favorite quotes scribbled on scraps of papers stuck in my datebook and some journals, as well.  We have two chalkboards in our kitchen--one large and one small--that I rotate different quotes and inspirational sayings.  I just love quotes.

So when I saw this great quote posted by one of my friends on Facebook, I just had to copy it and show it to you.

It's just too perfect!  However, as far as I can figure out, she never said it.  Perhaps I just haven't looked in the right place.  But I have  now checked all my favorite quote sites on the internet and a few extra just to be safe and, for the life of me, I can't find it.  I did however find a similar quote attributed to her on many, many sites that has a similar feel.

I would venture to warn against
too great intimacy with artists as it is
very seductive and a little dangerous.
--Queen Victoria

Well, you have now all been warned.  I have never thought of myself as dangerous, but I suppose some may disagree!

Great Giveaways!!

I have two fabulous giveaways to tell you about.  First, my sweet friend, Michele, at Seraphim Bears is having a fun giveaway to celebrate making 100 bears.  She has two photos of her two primary styles of bears for a poll.  This first poll is open until the end of August.  THEN, she'll have a second poll for her fans to decide whether the giveaway bear is a boy or a girl.  This second poll will be open during the month of September.  Then the giveaway itself will take place in October after she has completed the bear we all voted on.  Go check it out yourself by clicking HERE.

Wendy Chamberlain from Essential Bears is giving away sweet little Maddie on August 4th to celebrate 20 years of bear-making.  So you'll want to pop over there pretty quick.

Fun stuff!!

Dancing Home

Well, it's been a long five weeks, but our little dancer is coming home today!  We pick her up this afternoon in Buffalo where she has been for a 5-week ballet summer intensive.  I think she will miss dancing 6 hours a day, everyday, but I also think that she will be happy to be home.

She tends to battle homesickness when away.  At least now she knows that she can handle it and hopefully she has learned that she is stronger than she thinks.  I know she has big plans and hopes for next year's intensive--San Francisco and the Pacific Northwest have been mentioned, as have Boston and New York City.

She also thinks she may have gained some strength in her feet for pointe work as she's noticed a different wear pattern on the tips of her shoes.  I spoke to her local private ballet instructor earlier this week who was at the intensive during week 4, and also thought that her pointe work looked stronger.  I suppose that can't be helped if one is on pointe 2 hours a day.  Sounds incredibly painful to me!  During these five weeks, she has gone through 5 pairs of pointe shoes until they are completely "dead."  That gets a bit expensive at $80-$90 a pop.  Oh, well, I guess I'll just have to make more bears to cover the expense!

It will be nice to have our family back together and have some semblance of normalcy.  Well, I guess I'd better get myself ready for the long drive.

Getting Some Work Done

I have absolutely no photos.  I know people like to see photos on blogs, but I finally decided that I'd better just write a plain old post or you'll never hear from me again.

Today, I will have finished my 6th bear for TBAI--I will give you a sneaky peak another day.  Sounds a bit paltry, I know.  But considering how "perky" I've been this year, I guess it's not too bad.  In fact, I've only made 10 bears so far this year, so I'm pretty pleased that I've been able to make so many in the past month and a half.

Later today, if all goes well, I will cut out a bear for Silly Bears in Scotland.  I have to finish and mail out three bears for Julieann's shop before I head off to TBAI.  She's the one who persuaded me not to cancel going to TBAI and to give it a try before giving up.  I'm glad I heeded her advice, because it's such a fabulously fun show.  By the way, TBAI stands for the Teddy Bear Artist Invitational and is in Binghamton, New York this August 16th through 18th.  You can see their site by clicking HERE.

Talk to you soon!
