The Mulberries are Ripe!

One thing I look forward to all year is mulberry season.  It's not really that I'm looking forward to the mulberries themselves, rather I'm looking forward to having mulberry pie.  I know.  You can't get mulberries from the grocery store.  I can't either.  However, we are fortunate enough to have an old weeping mulberry tree.

Now when we first moved in over 6 years ago, we had no idea whether those things hanging from every branch on the tree were even edible. Thankfully to Google we soon identified the little berry beasties.

Let me tell you, there's a good reason mulberries aren't found in the supermarket.  They are delicate little things and you can quickly identify anyone who has been hanging around the tree nibbling on the sweet berries.  Just look for the lovely shade of purple on their fingers!  I can't tell you how MANY times I washed my hands and you can still see the tell-tale purple marks on my fingers in the photo above.  Oh, well--it was worth it!

Take good care of yourself!
Hugs,
Cheryl

  1. Delicious! Mulberry trees grow here in Arizona, people hate them, I think many people are allergic to them. I love them. Our season ended about two months ago. I walk down the street and eat breakfast. They are so good, one of my favorites.

  3. Mulberry's are so Delicious. Your pie looks a treat. I would love a bite. Did you know the green mulberries rubbed on the stain is supposed to get it off fabric, so it might help hands as well.

  4. Thanks, Kay! I didn't know that green mulberries help get stains out--I'll have to try that tomorrow when I pick some more!
