Wise Wednesday!

You may say, "Alas, I can't go back to tell my little self all these wonderful things she should have known."  But stop right there!  Every single day that little self is standing right next to you.  Looking up for guidance with bright, eager eyes.  Every step we take, we are leading her by her light little hand as she walks quietly by our side.  Almost like a ghost.  Tell her how beautiful . . . how perfect . . . and how loved she is right NOW.  This moment.  Go ahead.  Don't hesitate.  The joy and gratitude in her eyes as she looks up at you will be worth any price!

The Votes are In: Mission Accomplished

First off, I want to thank all of you who helped me by voting for your favorite bear in my poll.  Big ((((Hugs)))).Your thoughts and opinions helped me IMMENSELY!  I now have a "game plan," so to speak--a plan for which pattern to start with first, and then which to complete next, and the third one to do, and . . . well, I'm sure you get the idea.  Silly me!

#1 Winner!  Thaddeus and Isadora led the votes so I'll get to work on making a pattern with instructions for them this week with a plan/hope/prayer that the pattern will be completed by mid-May.  In preparation for it, I've already updated my current patterns of Toffee and Sammy with extensive and detailed illustrations.

When it comes down to it, I wasn't too surprised that Thaddeus and Isadora were the front runners, but I WAS surprised by who won SECOND place!

#2 was Xavier!  And to think that I almost didn't even enter him into the pool of contenders!!  I've always been rather fond of him, but I didn't realize or even think that other people liked or even noticed him.  Oooops!  My mistake obviously!

And in spot #3Edie and Tuppy!

Benny and Bennett ranked as #4 with 11 votes.

And last, but not least!  Aiden (below) pulled in 6 votes--but I must say that those who voted for him were quite impassioned.  I wasn't sure I was going to do all 5 of the patterns that I had initially proposed, but seeing how MUCH some people loved little Aiden has made me completely reconsider that.  I expect his pattern will be coming out sometime this year as well.

Thank you to everyone who voted and are interested in seeing my bears become patterns for new bears.  You all are really the BEST!!

A Tuppy Watch!

My old watch "gave up the ghost" so I decide to design a fun new one using  I took a photo of Tuppy, a little teddy bear I made last year, and "photoshopped" the heck out of it until my watch looked like this.  I must admit that I really enjoy wearing it.  It makes me smile every day!
Remember little Tuppy?  He's the dapper little chap below.  See the similarity?
So if any of you crafty types want to create something fun or silly with Tuppy's photoshopped little face, you have my permission to take the photo below and use it any way you see fit. (grin)  Have fun!
And, hey, let me know what you decide to do with it in the comments below--I'd love to hear from you!

Bingley's New Knit Sweater

It's still winter here, so that also means that it's still sweater weather.  And look who got a new sweater courtesy of our eldest daughter, Corinne!
Goodness!  Can that girl knit or what?!  It's absolutely gorgeous!

She found this sweet pattern online and just in case you want to make one for your furry friend, click here to get it.

I wish I could show you this sweater in all its glory.  It is absolutely luscious!  In fact, I wish I could have a sweater made for me just like it.  Hey!  That way Bingley and I could be twins!

The first day of spring is just 2 days away, so don't forget to enter my giveaway!

Vote for the Next Bingle Bear Pattern!

I've been itching to make some patterns for you.  My kind of math boils down to  "teddy bear = happiness.I want to bring those feel-good feelings directly to you so that you spread the love by making sweet teddy bears for your kids, grandkids, or just for yourself.

My goal is to eventually offer you a whole range of patterns starting with easy-peasey patterns for you beginning "craft-sters" and going all the way to patterns with tricky, advanced techniques for you experienced, brave ones. I also understand that my artist bears are quite expensive and difficult to afford for many people.  Releasing patterns is my way of making my bears more accessible and available to all of you.

But here comes the problem!  Which bear to start with?  I just can't decide so I'm leaving it up to you!  You, my dear readers, are going to vote in the sidebar and decide which bear will become the next Bingle Bear pattern.

Now, I'm not wanting to give you patterns that are "from the vault"--those ones gathering dust at the bottom of my closet.  Nope!  I want you to have up-to-date patterns -- patterns I would use now.  Patterns with all the tips and tricks that I currently use to make darling and sweet bears.

On to the contenders!
Note, all of these bear patterns will include instructions on how to make my signature needle-felted eyelids.

Contender Number 1Edie and Tuppy (below) are 8" bears made from the same pattern and will include both of their outfits.

Contender Number 2:Thaddeus and Isadora, (below) both from the same pattern, are bigger bears at 15 1/2" .  They are also both international award winners--Thaddeus won the 2012 Excellence in Bear Artistry Award and Isadora won the 2013 Excellence in Bear Artistry Award.  I will include instructions for the overalls and overall dress.

Contender Number 3Thirteen-inch Benny and Bennett (below; also made from the same pattern--do you see a theme here?) will have instructions for both paw pad techniques--needle felted and trapunto applique.

Contender Number 4: 13 1/2-inch Aiden (below) is a dear, simple bear that may just tug on your heartstrings with his wide open eyes.  The pattern would also include directions about how to paint his blue eyes.

Contender Number 5: And last but not least, 14-inch Xavier (below) with his trapunto applique paw pads and accent fur colors on his muzzle and ears.

It’s very common in the artist teddy bear world to keep a tight hold on one’s own patterns so that people don’t copy one’s work.  With the growth of the internet, it’s become a really big problem for artists with others stealing their photos, patterns, and ideas.  I can so understand why many artists chose to keep their secrets under cover.  But I’ve come to realize that it’s more important to me that I share my knowledge so that you can learn and grow and develop as a crafter or an artist yourself.  I trust you!

Now it's up to you!  Check out the sidebar and you'll see a voting poll right on the top that will be open until April 15th.

Take good care of yourself!

"Everything Sweet and Spring-y" Giveaway

It doesn't look like spring here since a thick layer of snow still covers our lawn and we have huge piles of snow pushed up into big piles in parking lots and along driveways.  But spring must be coming soon because the song birds have arrived this week and are singing their pretty tunes.  What a relief!
So000000, I think it's time for a little spring giveaway!  I just couldn't resist this little bundle of spring-like sweetness by Jim Shore.  She insisted that I pick her up for you!  It wouldn't have been polite to have done anything else.

She does look coy balancing on that ball like that, doesn't she?  This resin sweetie stands about 8 1/2" tall.

If you would like a chance to win her, just leave a comment.  People who follow my blog and leave a comment will get two chances to win.  Make sure that I will have a way to contact you if you win--if I can't contact you I will have to choose another winner.  How sad!  I will draw the winner on the first day of spring at noon (New York time)--Thursday, March 20th.

That's quite a pretty little arabesque she's doing!
Good luck!

Cover Girl! Or is that Cover Bear?

I never, ever, EVER expected to have one of my bears featured on the cover of a big teddy bear magazine.  But that's exactly where Thaddeus landed!  Smack dab on the front of the February/March 2014 edition of "Teddy Bear Times."
Gosh and golly!  I must admit I think he looks rather dapper!  They also wrote a lovely four-page article about me and my bears.  Boy, am I one lucky duck!

Okay, that's enough about me.  Now, some news for YOU!  I'm gearing up to having a spring giveaway and I think I have found THE must-have item for bear lovers.  At least, I think it's a must-have!  I guess you'll have to decide for yourself. (grin)

Take good care of yourself!

Felt Fun!

Boy, has it been a crazy fall and winter!  First I had a nasty 6-week fibromyalgia flare-up and then, when that was finally over, 2 weeks later I had shingles starting on Christmas day.  What a Christmas present!  After the shingles healed up, I had one week of near-normal health and then was hit with the flu!  Yikes!  I'm just starting to feel more normal--still a bit low on energy with a nasty cough, but at least I'm on the mend.  Goodness, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll stay well for a while and I'll be able to keep you more up-to-date.
On the crafting front, I haven't had the energy to do much, but our college girl had some fun over her holiday break.  Look at this sweet little felt doll she made and its two dresses!
I love the feather stitching she did on this dress--it looks so fresh!

And this little outfit is a Irish dance costume she designed complete with ghillis (the Irish dance shoes)!
I hope this little note finds all of you in Blogland warm and well!  Take good care of yourselves!
